Château Duhart-Milon 2020 is the Grand Vin of this Pauillac estate, offered here in a 1.5-litre magnum. That format suits a wine built around origin, structure and patience. Duhart-Milon is a Fourth Growth from the 1855 classification and belongs to Domaines Barons de Rothschild Lafite.

The 2020 blend is 72% Cabernet Sauvignon and 28% Merlot. The fruit comes from the Château Duhart-Milon vineyard in Pauillac, on the Milon hill near the Carruades de Lafite plateau, where fine gravel, aeolian sand and tertiary limestone form part of the vineyard identity. In the glass, that background is reflected in a classic Pauillac frame: dark fruit, freshness, defined tannins and a marked graphite note.

This vintage also has an extra point of interest for the estate. 2020 was the first year made in the new cellar, allowing more parcel-by-parcel vinification. The winemaking followed the traditional Bordeaux approach, with careful sorting, fermentation in concrete or stainless steel depending on origin, gentle pump-overs and around twenty days of maceration. Ageing took place in French oak barrels, 50% of them new.

In its youth, Château Duhart-Milon 2020 is described as somewhat reserved, yet its aromatic direction is already clear: ripe but fresh black fruit, especially blackcurrant and cassis, with menthol and mint. Other tasting notes mention black cherry, plum, blueberry, blackberry, violet, tobacco, cedar, cigar box and pencil shavings.

On the palate it brings together freshness and volume, supported by well-defined tannins that are described as fine-grained to firm. The body sits between medium and full, with a polished feel. The finish is long and savoury, carrying graphite, earth, truffle, liquorice, chocolate and coffee.
