Château Les Carmes Haut Brion 2020 is the red grand vin of the estate in Pessac-Léognan, Bordeaux. It should be seen apart from Le C des Carmes Haut-Brion, as this is the château's main wine. The 2020 blend is particularly shaped by Cabernet Franc, which accounts for 40%, supported by 34% Cabernet Sauvignon and 26% Merlot.The fruit came from 7.60 hectares of selected parcels, with vines averaging just over forty years of age. Gravel soils over clay and limestone place it firmly in the Pessac-Léognan tradition. The vintage saw a steady spring followed by warm, dry weather, with a fully manual harvest taking place between 14 and 26 September.
In the cellar, the approach adds another layer to the wine's identity. The grapes were handled without crushing and a significant part was vinified as whole bunches, specified later by the estate as 50%. Fermentation and maceration lasted 35 days, followed by 24 months of ageing, mainly in new oak barrels, with additional maturation in foudres and a small proportion in terracotta amphorae or sandstone.
