Flavour notes
The colour is very dark red, almost black, with bluish to purple reflections. The aroma centres on fresh red and black fruit: blackcurrant, dark berries, cherry, raspberry and plum. Behind the fruit come notes of star anise, liquorice, clove, violet and rose, followed by tobacco leaf, graphite, pencil shavings, slate, cedar and dark chocolate.On the palate, it is medium-bodied and clearly shaped by the freshness of the 2021 vintage. The tannins are fine-grained, silky and well integrated. Red and black fruit are joined by sweet spice, liquorice, chocolate and a chalky, stony mineral note. The finish stays fresh, with a lightly saline edge at times.

Le Petit Smith Haut Lafitte Rouge 2021 is a red Bordeaux from Pessac-Léognan, produced by Château Smith Haut Lafitte in the Graves. This is the 1.5-litre magnum format: the wine itself remains the same, but the bottle brings a more generous presence to the table and feels made for sharing.The 2021 blend is 60% cabernet sauvignon and 40% merlot. Cabernet sauvignon clearly shapes the wine, giving freshness, length and a defined structure, while merlot rounds out the middle. The grapes come from the estate itself, where organic and biodynamic viticulture are used, and were carefully sorted before fermentation.
In the cellar, the approach is equally precise. The uncrushed grapes were moved by gravity into the vats, with extraction through pigeage and/or remontage. The wine then matured for 14 months in barriques, 20% of them new, with barrels made in Château Smith Haut Lafitte's own cooperage.

About SMITH HAUT LAFITTE
Smith Haut Lafitte is a winery from the Bordeaux region in France, specifically located in the Pessac-Léognan appellation, south of the city of Bordeaux. The estate has a history dating back to the 14th century, but the name Smith Haut Lafitte became known in the 18th century thanks to the Scottish merchant George Smith, who acquired the estate and linked his name to it. Today, the Château is owned by Daniel and Florence Cathiard, who have been managing it since 1990. Smith Haut Lafitte produces both red and white wines, with the reds generally made from a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Cabernet Franc, and the whites mainly from Sauvignon Blanc, complemented by Sémillon and Sauvignon Gris. The estate is often praised for its focus on traditional winemaking, combined with modern techniques, including careful selection of grapes and sustainable viticulture methods.
