Château Haut Bailly 2021 is the estate's Grand Vin from Pessac-Léognan in Graves, presented here in a 37.5 cl half bottle. The smaller format does not change the identity of the wine: this is a dry red Bordeaux blend with Cabernet Sauvignon firmly at its core.The 2021 vintage was a demanding one at Haut Bailly. A mild, wet winter was followed by early budburst, April frost and a rainy spring with strong disease pressure. From mid-August onwards the weather turned drier and warmer, allowing the fruit to continue ripening before a late harvest. Merlot was picked from 27 September, while the Cabernet parcels came in during early October. Around half of the crop was selected for the Grand Vin.
There is also a cellar story behind this release. 2021 was the first vintage vinified in Château Haut Bailly's new winery, where smaller, parcel-specific vats allow a more precise approach. The blend brings together 65% Cabernet Sauvignon, 22% Merlot, 10% Petit Verdot and 3% Cabernet Franc, with maturation noted in 50% new French oak. The style described for this year is not one of great opulence, but of freshness, definition and classical structure.

It has the structure for further bottle age, while younger bottles benefit from two to three hours of decanting. Château Haut-Bailly is a well-known name from the French Bordeaux region and is located in the heart of Pessac-Lëognan, just south of the city of Bordeaux. The estate has a history dating back to the 16th century and has long been known for producing red wines mainly from Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Cabernet Franc. The château owns around 30 hectares of vineyards on a unique sandy gravel soil, which contributes to the distinctive elegance and structure of the wines. Since 1998, Château Haut-Bailly has been owned by the Wilmers family; recently, ownership has passed on to their descendants, with input from an international team.
