Chateau Durfort Vivens 2021 is the Grand Vin of Château Durfort-Vivens in Margaux, a Deuxième Grand Cru Classé from the 1855 classification. What immediately stands out in this vintage is the blend: 97% cabernet sauvignon with just 3% merlot. That gives the wine a very clear cabernet identity, shaped by the finesse and restraint associated with Margaux.The 2021 vintage is described as a cooler, demanding year for winemaking rather than a warm, opulent Bordeaux vintage. That comes through in the style of the wine: fresh, precise and firmly structured. The grapes come from vineyards in Margaux, Cantenac and Soussans, planted on deep gravel soils with sand and clay. Since the 2016 vintage, the estate's wines have been certified organic and biodynamic.
In the cellar, the approach follows the same sense of detail. The wine was vinified parcel by parcel, with native yeasts and gentle extraction through one pump-over per day. Maturation lasted 18 months, with 70% in new oak barrels and 30% in TAVA amphorae. Chateau Durfort-Vivens is a French winery located in the Margaux appellation, in the Bordeaux region. The domaine has a long history that dates back to the 17th century and received its current name after being acquired by the Vivens family in the 19th century. Today, Chateau Durfort-Vivens is owned by Gonzague Lurton, who has continued the winery in the Bordeaux tradition with an emphasis on respect for the terroir.
