Mondot 2021 is a red Bordeaux from Saint-Émilion, produced by Château Troplong Mondot as a separate cuvée from the estate. The château presents Mondot as another interpretation of the Troplong Mondot terroir, with a clear focus on limestone-driven parcels.What makes the 2021 vintage especially noteworthy is its composition: 100% merlot. According to the available vintage information, this was the last Mondot vintage made entirely from merlot before cabernet franc was introduced from 2022 onwards. Maturation in tank and neutral barrels keeps new oak out of the foreground, allowing fruit clarity, freshness and limestone expression to take the lead.
Rather than a weighty or heavily oaked Saint-Émilion, Mondot 2021 is described as medium-bodied, aromatic and precise, with fine tannins and a chalky mineral thread. Château Troplong Mondot is a winery that is located on the distinctive limestone hills of Saint-Émilion, in the heart of Bordeaux, France. The estate has a history dating back to the 18th century and is particularly known for its vineyards, which benefit from a unique location on the highest points of the Saint-Émilion plateau. The name Troplong refers to the family who developed the estate in the 19th century, while Mondot refers to the original part of the property. Since 2006, it has been classified as Premier Grand Cru Classé B, a recognition within the classification system of Saint-Émilion. The wines of Château Troplong Mondot are especially valued for their power, rich structure, and potential to age beautifully.
