These are the top 5 women's drinks!

In the run-up to International Women's Day, as the only woman in the marketing team of our Drinks Shop, I was assigned a special mission: to discover the favourite drinks of our female customers. With enthusiasm, I set to work and after gauging opinions via our social media channels as well as those of our neighbours in the supermarket, we discovered some absolute bestsellers.

Besides the classics like Gin (especially in the form of a gin-tonic), Aperol and Martini, rum, limoncello and champagne also appear to be high on the ladies' list of favourites. And let's definitely not forget popular cocktails like Mojito and Pornstar Martini either!

Rum

Uhm, who says rum is only for tough pirates! Rum is firmly at number five in our list of favourite women's drinks. The sweet and spicy notes of rum are clearly appreciated, especially in mixed drinks like Mojitos and Piña Coladas.

Which rums do we recommend to our female readers?

Speaking of top brands, we can definitely recommend Plantation Rum and Flor de Caña. Plantation/Planteray is known for its craftsmanship and attention to detail, while Flor de Caña has been a Nicaraguan favourite for over a century, with a wide range of variants.

Rum reminds us of this female character

Rum reminds us of Elizabeth Swann from 'Pirates of the Caribbean', who is no stranger to a good glass of rum, even in the midst of pirate adventures and sea battles.

Champagne

Champagne is often associated with elegance, sophistication and glamour, making it a favourite choice for many women who like to celebrate special moments in style.

Which champagne do we recommend to our female readers?

While we women are certainly good at tasting and judging drinks, when it comes to choosing the perfect champagne, we like to leave the advice to our CEO, Jan Broekmans. His expertise and experience in the industry make him a valuable resource. What does he recommend? "Paul Goerg! The brand is known for its accessibility and excellent value for money."

Champagne reminds us of this female character

Champagne reminds us of the sophisticated lifestyle of Serena van der Woodsen from 'Gossip Girl'. As she embraces the glitz and glamour of New York social life, we often see her enjoying a French 75: a classic mix of gin, champagne, lemon juice and sugar syrup.

Martini

Martini ranks third in our top five favourite women's drinks, and it's easy to see why. Women love the versatility and timeless elegance of this drink. Both the classic Martini cocktail and the vermouth used as an ingredient in numerous other delicious drinks are a hit!

If you are looking for a new vermouth to try....

...we would definitely recommend the Bordiga vermouth. This vermouth was added to our range only last week and is definitely worth trying!

Martini reminds us of this female character...

Martini reminds us of Bond girl Vesper Lynd, whose favourite drink is a Vodka Martini. (Fact: James Bond, on the other hand, prefers a Martini with gin)

Aperol Spritz

Second on our favourites list is the Aperol Spritz. Those who have read my bio text at the bottom of my blogs already knew this, but Aperol is also my personal favourite! With its bright orange colour and refreshing taste, this drink is an instant mood maker for any occasion!

Gin

Drum roll, please! In first place is gin, the all-round favourite of our female customers. We really saw this drink come back incredibly often among the answers. With its various flavours and endless mixing possibilities, there is always an option to suit you!

Which gin do we recommend to our female readers?

Ladies, we recommend you try out the Mambosa Club Strawberry! With its subtle hint of strawberry, this gin adds a delicious fruity twist to your drink, perfect for those who like something refreshing and sweet. Whitley Neill also offers several fruity variants.

Gin reminds us of this female character ...

Gin reminds us of Carrie Bradshaw from 'Sex and the City'. Carrie's penchant for fashion and independence is often matched by her love of cocktails, including her beloved gin-tonic. A gon-tonic is Carrie's perfect companion while writing her latest column, attending a fashion show or simply enjoying a night out with friends.

Our ladies' 5 favourite cocktails:

Did you know...

  • Women often have a better-developed sense of taste than men, allowing them to appreciate more subtle flavours in drinks.
  • Studies show that women generally need less alcohol than men to feel the same effect, due to differences in body composition.
  • Historically, many classic cocktails were actually invented by women, such as the martini and margarite.
  • Drinking moderate amounts of alcohol may even have some health benefits for women, such as a reduced risk of heart disease.
  • Women tend to opt more often for colourful and eye-catching cocktails, while men tend more towards classic and simple options.
  • Did you know that the first brewers in history were actually women? Beer brewing was originally a job for women!

As a creative jack-of-all-trades in the marketing world, I also bring that imaginative flair to my drink choices. Whether on a night out, sunny vacation or social gathering with girlfriends, I'm always in my element with a refreshing cocktail in hand. Cocktails have stolen my heart because of the endless possibilities to experiment and explore. My favorite cocktail of the moment is the "Lazy Red Cheeks"! A delicious cocktail using vodka as a base. I love vodka because it mixes perfectly with non-alcoholic drinks. My favorite spirit? Rum!
