Lively acidity keeps the wine taut, while nuts, dried herbs, rancio-like depth and a savoury hint of dried seaweed add further tension. The finish is long, lightly prickling, spicy and persistently balsamic.

Valdespino Coliseo Amontillado VORS is a very old dry amontillado sherry from the Jerez-Xérès-Sherry region of Andalusia. As part of Valdespino's VORS collection, Very Old Rare Sherry, Coliseo sits firmly in the world of deep, concentrated and saline sherry rather than light aperitif styles. It is made from 100% Palomino Fino and has undergone both biological and oxidative ageing.The most striking detail is the age and scale of the solera behind it. The soleras date back to the end of the 19th century, and the technical information states that the solera consists of only five casks. That is exactly why, at Drankenshop Broekmans, Coliseo is presented as a sherry for quiet attention: dry, intense and shaped by long maturation.
Valdespino describes Coliseo as a very old amontillado originating from manzanilla. The youngest criadera is now refreshed with manzanilla pasada from the Misericordia bodega in the Barrio Alto of Sanlúcar de Barrameda. With 22% alcohol and a clearly dry profile, this is a sherry to pour in modest measures and take your time with.
It has the concentration to stand beside bold flavours such as spicy dishes, marinades, smoked products, blue cheeses, white meat and oily fish. Served around 12 to 14 °C, its saline tension and dry structure remain beautifully defined.

About VALDESPINO
The first seeds of Bodegas Valdespino were sown in 1264, when Don Alfonso Valdespino received an estate in Jerez de la Frontera from King Alonso for his help in the struggle against the Moors. In the meantime, Valdespino has become a purveyor to, among others, the Spanish and Swedish royal families. Contrabandista Amontillado is a blend of Palomino and Pedro Ximenez. The grapes originate from Pago Macharnudo Alto in Jerez de la Frontera. Fermentation takes place in casks, which was very common in the past, but is now unique to Valdespino. The sherry matures for about 8 years in barrel and 7 years under oxidative ageing.
