Valdespino Palo Cortado Macharnudo Alto Single Vineyard 2001 is a sherry with a very precise origin: Palomino grapes from the highest part of the Pago Macharnudo Alto. The vines are between 35 and 55 years old, and that vineyard identity is at the heart of this limited release.For this 2001 Vintage Palo Cortado, the winemakers selected two casks that clearly stood above the others in quality. These casks were allowed to mature further before being bottled as an extra limited edition of 974 bottles. What makes this release so compelling is the combination of Palo Cortado character, single vineyard origin and the 2001 vintage. With only a small number bottled, and now down to the last bottles, it is a sherry to take time with rather than rush.

About VALDESPINO
The first seeds of Bodegas Valdespino were sown in 1264, when Don Alfonso Valdespino received an estate in Jerez de la Frontera from King Alonso for his help in the fight against the Moors. In the meantime, Valdespino has become a purveyor to, among others, the Spanish and Swedish royal families. The Macharnudo Alto vineyard, which is 56.2 hectares in size, is planted with the Palomino Fino grape, which is also used for the Palo Cortado Viejo. This makes Valdespino the only one in Jerez that produces Single Vineyard Sherrys. The white soil is called albariza and is very rich in lime. The harvest is manual. The Palo Cortado Viejo C.P. has an average age of more than 25 years! C.P. in the name refers to the street where the solera of this sherry was originally located.
