Product info about Valdespino Palo Cortado 2000 Single Cask 37,5cl
Valdespino Palo Cortado 2000 Single Cask is a very specific expression of Jerez rather than a standard solera sherry. It comes from one vintage, one cask and one vineyard origin: Pago Macharnudo Alto. The wine is made from 100% Palomino Fino grown in Valdespino's own vineyard on the white albariza soils associated with the region.Instead of being refreshed with younger wine, this añada sherry matured statically in cask. For this style, the casks are sealed and opened under the supervision of the Consejo Regulador. After around 17 years in American oak, it was bottled in June 2017, shaped by slow ageing and natural concentration through evaporation.
At Drankenshop Broekmans, we see this as a particularly expressive choice for drinkers who appreciate dry sherry with a clear sense of origin. Only 500 hand-numbered half bottles were released, and the last-bottles indication makes clear that this is now a scarce release rather than a recurring bottling.
At 20% alcohol and with a dry profile, it is a wine to pour calmly and taste in small measures. Served cool rather than ice-cold, its saline, nutty and mature Palo Cortado character has the space to unfold.

About VALDESPINO
The first seeds of Bodegas Valdespino were sown in 1264, when Don Alfonso Valdespino received an estate in Jerez de la Frontera from King Alonso for his help in the fight against the Moors. In the meantime, Valdespino has become a purveyor to, among others, the Spanish and Swedish royal families. The Macharnudo Alto vineyard, which is 56.2 hectares in size, is planted with the Palomino Fino grape, which is also used for the Palo Cortado Viejo. This makes Valdespino the only one in Jerez that produces Single Vineyard Sherrys. The white soil is called albariza and is very rich in lime. The harvest is manual. The Palo Cortado Viejo C.P. has an average age of more than 25 years! C.P. in the name refers to the street where the solera of this sherry was originally located.
