Flavour notes
In the glass, Château Quintus 2019 shows a deep red colour with purple reflections. Aromatically, it brings ripe black fruit, cassis, blackberry, blackcurrant and plum-like fruit, followed by subtle spice, cedar, smoke, woody notes and a graphite-like mineral edge. The palate is broad, fleshy and full, with a creamy, structured mid-palate. The tannins are firm yet fine, without a hard edge, and the finish is long. Ripe fruit concentration, the clear role of cabernet franc and the oak influence give the wine a powerful but composed feel.

Product info about Chateau Quintus 2019
Château Quintus 2019 is the estate's grand vin from Saint-Émilion Grand Cru, made with merlot noir and cabernet franc in a vintage where cabernet franc clearly has an important voice beside the fuller merlot. The vineyards sit on a limestone promontory with plateau and slopes of varied exposure, giving the estate a range of microclimates to work with and placing the wine firmly in the character of Bordeaux's Right Bank. The 2019 season brought a dry, warm summer, welcome rain at the end of July and cooler nights in August, followed by favourable conditions in September. Harvest ran from 19 September to 9 October. The estate works with hand harvesting, strict grape selection and gentle extraction, using wooden and stainless-steel vats for vinification. For this vintage, ageing involved French oak with 38.2% new barriques.
At Drankenshop Broekmans, we see Château Quintus 2019 as a serious Saint-Émilion for drinkers who appreciate structure, depth and the possibility of further bottle development. Available notes position it as a wine for ageing, with its tannic frame, concentration and oak influence expected to benefit from time in bottle. This is the estate's grand vin, not Le Dragon de Quintus or Saint-Émilion de Quintus.
Château Quintus is part of Domaine Clarence Dillon, and the Quintus name has been used for the grand vin since the 2011 vintage. The 2019 has also drawn strong critical attention, including 97/100 from James Suckling and 96/100 from Wine Advocate. With only limited bottles remaining, it is a wine that has clearly resonated with Bordeaux enthusiasts.
For the table, it sits well alongside charcuterie, magret de canard, entrecôte bordelaise, vegetable lasagne or Saint-Nectaire. A serving temperature of around 16 to 18 °C is mentioned.
