The aromatic register is dark and Cabernet-led, with cassis, blackcurrant, dark plum, liquorice and dark chocolate. Product info about Le Petit Smith Haut Lafitte Red 2019
Le Petit Smith Haut Lafitte Red 2019 is a second wine from Château Smith Haut Lafitte in Pessac-Léognan, Bordeaux. It comes from the estate's vineyards in the Graves and presents a dry, structured red wine with a clear Cabernet Sauvignon influence and the stony, dark-fruited tone associated in the supplied notes with this terroir. The 2019 blend is 60% Cabernet Sauvignon and 40% Merlot. The vineyard is organically farmed on poor, gravel-rich soils with clay or limestone beneath, a setting described by the estate as combining warmth, drainage and retained freshness. In the cellar, the grapes are double sorted, before and after destemming, then moved by gravity for fermentation. The wine spends 14 months in barriques made in the estate's own cooperage, with 20% new oak.
At Drankenshop Broekmans, this is the kind of Bordeaux we like to explain rather than simply place on a shelf. It has the seriousness of its origin, yet it remains the second wine of the château: a way to experience the Smith Haut Lafitte style through a wine shaped by structure, silky tannins and a Cabernet-led aromatic line.
The 2019 vintage received strong recognition from several wine publications, and only the last bottles remain available. That makes it a timely choice for anyone looking for a Pessac-Léognan with both present drinking appeal and stated ageing potential.
The aromatic register is dark and Cabernet-led, with cassis, blackcurrant, dark plum, liquorice and dark chocolate. Tobacco adds a more savoury, earthy accent, while the oak influence is clear but not overpowering.
On the palate it is dry and structured, described as medium in power, with silky tannins and fresh acidity. The tannins carry a gravelly, stony feel, and the finish remains dry and mineral.
