Product info about Vik Millahue 2021
Vik Millahue 2021 is a Chilean red wine from Millahue in the Cachapoal Valley, made as a dry Bordeaux-oriented blend. The composition is very focused: 77% Cabernet Franc and 23% Cabernet Sauvignon. Within the VIK range, this is the estate's flagship cuvée, and the 2021 vintage is built entirely around those two varieties.Its origin is central to the wine's identity. The grapes come from deep, porous, weathered granite soils with good natural drainage. For the 2021 vintage, the producer describes a long dry winter, a spring that moved from cool to warm, and a comparatively cool summer. Those cooler conditions before harvest are linked to even ripening, aromatic intensity, freshness and tension in the wine.
The maturation is also part of the VIK signature. The wine spent 26 months ageing, mainly in Barroir barrels, the producer's own barrel programme, with a smaller share matured in clay vessels from the Amphoir programme. Indigenous yeasts from the Fleuroir programme are used as well. It gives the wine a very particular house identity without making the oak the whole story.
At Drankenshop Broekmans, we see this as a structured, concentrated Chilean red with real ageing potential and a distinctive Cabernet Franc-driven personality. The international acclaim, including 100 points from James Suckling and Gilbert & Gaillard, supports the reputation of this vintage, but the real interest lies in the combination of granite soils, freshness, firm architecture and long maturation. Only the last bottles of this vintage remain available.
Serve at around 16 to 18 °C. The producer also recommends decanting for about an hour before serving, especially when opened young. Its tannic structure, herbal depth and mineral accents make it a natural match for dry-aged ribeye, roasted lamb, grilled beef or mushroom risotto with aged pecorino.

Vik Millahue is a Chilean wine brand originating from the Millahue Valley in the Cachapoal region, central Chile. The winery is part of VIK Winery, founded in 2006 by the Norwegian-Colombian duo Alexander and Carrie Vik. Since its establishment, there has been intensive investment in both sustainable viticulture and architecture; the distinctive winery building was designed by architect Smiljan Radic and serves as an eye-catcher in the region. The vineyards were chosen for a unique location in the Millahue Valley, where different soil types and microclimates converge.
