Very last one in stock!
Château Marsau 2016 in magnum is a red Bordeaux from Francs Côtes de Bordeaux, on the Right Bank, a few kilometres east of Saint-Émilion. This is the château's main wine rather than its second label, and in this vintage it is built entirely around Merlot from deep clay and clay-limestone soils.
That clay is central to the 2016 story. During the dry summer it retained water, helping the wine keep balance and freshness while reaching full ripeness. The Merlot was harvested in October and vinified patiently, with gentle extraction and parcel-by-parcel, temperature-controlled work. Ageing took place partly in French oak barrels, alongside other vessels of different sizes and materials.

Château Marsau 2018 is a dry red Bordeaux from Côtes de Francs, made entirely from Merlot. The estate of Anne-Laurence and Mathieu Chadronnier sits on a clay-rich plateau east of Saint-Émilion, and that clay origin is central to the identity of the wine.

That gives this vintage a particular sense of concentration and scarcity. Fermentation was carried out with indigenous yeasts, and 2018 was also the first year in which Château Marsau began its conversion to organic farming.

Chateau Marsau 2018 Magnum is a red Bordeaux from Côtes de Francs, made entirely from Merlot. In the 1.5 litre magnum format, it has the kind of table presence that suits a generous meal or a bottle opened with people who will take their time with it.
The 2018 vintage has a particularly interesting background at Château Marsau. The estate sits on a high plateau with a strongly clay-based terroir, a setting where Merlot is central. That year was difficult, with heavy mildew pressure and very low yields, so the wine comes across as a concentrated, ripe expression with dark and red fruit, floral detail, spice, mineral accents and a firm yet fine tannic frame.
This was also the vintage that marked the beginning of the move towards organic farming. The (…)
