Quest Red 2018 is a Spanish red wine with a very distinct identity: a Bordeaux-inspired blend of cabernet sauvignon, cabernet franc, petit verdot and merlot, shaped in the high-altitude setting of Pallars Jussà in Catalonia. It comes from the D.O. Costers del Segre and is linked to Castell d'Encús, the estate founded in 2001 by oenologist Raül Bobet.
The appeal lies in the meeting of place, history and precision. The grapes come from the estate's own vineyard near Talarn, where altitude and clear day-night temperature shifts help preserve freshness and tension. Fermentation takes place entirely in 12th-century stone gravity vats once used by the Hospitallers, with native or wild yeasts. Quest Red 2018 Magnum is the 1.5 litre bottling of Castell d'Encús Quest 2018, a Spanish red wine from Catalonia's D.O. Costers del Segre. It comes from the area around Talarn in Pallars Jussà, in the Pyrenees of Lleida, where high-altitude vineyards give the wine its particular mix of ripe dark fruit, freshness and firm structure.
Quest is the estate's Bordeaux-oriented red blend, made from Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Petit Verdot. For the 2018 vintage, the blend is described as equal parts of the four varieties. The grapes are hand-harvested in small 10 kilogram crates, then fermented with native yeasts in 12th-century stone lagares. Maturation follows in French oak barriques for 17 to 18 months.
