Pichon Comtesse Réserve 2019 is the second wine of Château Pichon Longueville Comtesse de Lalande in Pauillac, presented here in a 1.5-litre magnum. That larger format suits the wine well: this is a structured red Bordeaux with ripe fruit, freshness and the kind of presence that makes it feel at home at a serious dinner table. In the selection at Drankenshop Broekmans, it stands out as a Pauillac with classic lines but also a generous, textural side.The 2019 blend is built from Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and a small proportion of Cabernet Franc. The Cabernet brings the firm frame, graphite and cedar tones, while the high share of Merlot adds roundness and depth of texture. The fruit comes from the Pichon Comtesse terroir in the south of Pauillac, where gravel, clay and sand all play their part.
The vintage was sunny and dry, with a healthy harvest beginning in mid-September and finishing in early October. Parcels were vinified separately, followed by 12 months in barriques, 40% of them new. The oak supports the wine's structure and dark fruit rather than taking over the conversation.
As a magnum, this Pichon Comtesse Réserve has real table presence. It is well suited to grilled beef, herb-roasted lamb, duck, game terrine, mushroom dishes or mature cheeses, and the limited availability gives this bottle an extra sense of occasion.

Ch Pichon Comtesse, fully known as Château Pichon Longueville Comtesse de Lalande, originates from the prestigious Bordeaux region in France and belongs to the Pauillac appellation. This winery traces its origins back to the 19th century and is internationally renowned for its elegant red wines, in which cabernet sauvignon usually plays the leading role, often complemented by merlot and smaller proportions of cabernet franc and petit verdot. The vineyards are situated on the characteristic gravel soils of the left bank of the Gironde, which contributes to the structure and aging potential of the wines. Château Pichon Comtesse received the status of Deuxième Cru Classé in the 1855 Bordeaux classification, placing it among the second highest rank of the Medoc vineyards. Through the combination of traditional winemaking methods and contemporary insights, the wines manage to surprise both enthusiasts and collectors with their refined character and balance.
