Flavour notes
In the glass, Byrrh Rare Assemblage shows a deep tone described as old mahogany to dark Bordeaux red. The aroma is intense, with candied red fruit, stewed berries, tobacco leaf, cedarwood and a paprika-like spice note.On the palate, wine-like fruit is joined by natural sweetness, quinquina bitterness and light oak tannins. Liquorice, bitter chocolate, dried fruit and spices add depth, while the finish turns drier with notes of coffee, mocha, vanilla, toast and pepper.

Product info about Byrrh Rare Assemblage
Byrrh Rare Assemblage is not a standard red wine, but a French wine-based aperitif from Thuir in the Pyrénées-Orientales. It belongs to the quinquina tradition: aperitifs built around wine, mistelle, botanicals and quinquina, with a base drawn from Catalan and Roussillon wines. Its distinctive point is the assemblage of selected years, followed by extended oak ageing. Grenache Noir, Carignan and Macabeu form part of the wine background, while Muscat mistelles bring natural sweetness and quinquina gives the drink its firm bitter thread. The oak maturation helps soften the tannins and gives the aperitif a more rounded, developed structure.
At Drankenshop Broekmans, we see this as a bottle for people who enjoy classic French aperitifs with depth: red-wine character, spice, fruit sweetness and bitterness all playing a role. Served chilled, around 16 °C, it is very much an aperitif, though its profile also makes sense in classic aperitif and cocktail settings.
With only the last bottles remaining, this is a fine moment to discover Byrrh in its more refined Rare Assemblage form.
