Is Solus from Cantine Sardus Pater is a Sardinian red wine with a strong sense of origin. It comes from Sant'Antioco, in the south-west of Sardinia, within the Carignano del Sulcis DOC. In this 1.5-litre magnum, the 2021 vintage has a generous table presence, especially alongside grilled or roasted red meat.The heart of the wine lies in its Carignano grapes. They come from sandy soils at sea level, from traditionally trained ungrafted alberello bush vines with an average age of around 35 years. Cantine Sardus Pater has a clear focus on Carignano on Sant'Antioco, and Is Solus reflects that island setting in a ripe, herbal, Mediterranean style that still keeps freshness in the mouth.
Fermentation takes place in stainless steel, while the malolactic fermentation is completed entirely in barriques. The wine then matures for 12 months in Allier barriques, followed by a further 12 months in bottle before release. Sardus Pater is a winery from the south of Sardinia, Italy, with a strong regional identity that dates back to the founding of the coöperative in 1949.
