Chateau La Fleur 2021 Magnum is a red wine from Saint-Emilion, France, presented in the generous 1.5 litre format. The 2021 vintage is led by Merlot, with a notably strong contribution from Cabernet Franc: 78% Merlot and 22% Cabernet Franc. That Cabernet Franc presence gives this vintage a particular voice, with freshness, floral detail and classic Bordeaux structure taking precedence over sheer weight.The wine comes from the northern side of Saint-Emilion, where the vineyards sit on clay-limestone soils and clay over limestone subsoil. Chateau La Fleur has been part of Dassault Wine Estates since 2002. The wine is vinified parcel by parcel in temperature-controlled concrete and wooden vats, then aged for the 2021 vintage in 60% new barriques, 35% concrete tanks and 5% amphorae.
At Drankenshop Broekmans, we find the context of this release especially interesting. Frost affected the 2021 vintage and production was limited to around 6,000 bottles, while favourable conditions in September and October allowed the grapes to ripen well. In magnum, and with the last bottles now in view, it has a naturally more distinctive presence on the table.
Best served around 16 to 18 °C, this Saint-Emilion is well suited to red meat, game, poultry and cheese. It also sits comfortably alongside classic meat dishes such as veal or grilled quail.
