Pichon Comtesse Réserve 2022 is a red wine from Pauillac, one of Bordeaux's most recognised appellations. It is the second wine of Château Pichon Longueville Comtesse de Lalande, a Deuxième Grand Cru Classé, and comes from the same terroir base as the Grand Vin before being blended separately after parcel-by-parcel vinification.The 2022 blend is led by cabernet sauvignon, supported by merlot, petit verdot and a small proportion of cabernet franc. Vinification took place by individual plot in temperature-controlled conical stainless steel tanks, followed by 12 months in oak barrels, 50% of them new. That combination gives the wine a distinctly Pauillac structure while keeping the aromatic detail in focus.
The growing season in Pauillac was warm and dry. Pichon Comtesse benefited from the moderating influence of the Gironde and avoided the hail that affected parts of the Médoc. Harvest began on 8 September in dry conditions, before the heavier rain arrived near the end of the month. In the glass, that context translates into ripeness, depth and a firm but measured sense of precision.
