Alma 2020

Alma 2020 from Bodega Contador is a red Rioja with a strong sense of place. This is the first vintage of the cuvée from Benjamín Romeo's project in San Vicente de la Sonsierra, in Rioja Alta, made mainly from Tempranillo with a smaller share of Garnacha.
The wine draws its character from three parcels around the village, each representing a different part of the landscape. Lower alluvial and gravelly soils near the Ebro are combined with fruit from a stonier middle zone and a higher, clay-limestone area at the foot of the Sierra de Toloño. That combination gives Alma 2020 its depth, freshness and firm Rioja identity.
It matured for 20 months in new French barriques, adding structure along with spicy, toasted and balsamic accents. The 2020 (…)Marques De Riscal Tapias 2019

Marques De Riscal Tapias 2019
In stock
Marques De Riscal Tapias 2019 is a Rioja with a very specific sense of place. It is the first vintage of this cuvée and comes from Finca Las Tapias in Elciego, within Rioja Alavesa. Made from Tempranillo, it is drawn from a carefully chosen 2.85-hectare selection inside a 15-hectare vineyard regarded by Marques De Riscal as one of its finest sites.
The vineyard background matters here. Las Tapias was planted in 1968 using massal selection from very old vines. Its soils, on ancient Ebro terraces, are looser and more stony than usual, with a clear limestone layer beneath. The 2019 season added its own imprint: small berries, open bunches, a Las Tapias harvest beginning on 2 October, and grapes marked by low pH and high acidity.
After 20 months in French (…)Marques De Riscal Tapias 2020

Marques De Riscal Tapias 2020

Marques De Riscal Tapias 2020 is a red Rioja with a very precise sense of origin. It comes from Finca Las Tapias in Elciego, within Rioja Alavesa, where Marqués de Riscal selected a small section of a vineyard the estate regards as one of its finest.
The wine is made from Tempranillo planted in 1968 through massal selection. Its setting on old Ebro terraces, with a looser gravel-rich soil and a limestone layer deeper down, gives useful context to the wine's identity. The vineyard surroundings include Mediterranean herbs such as thyme, lavender, sage and rosemary, adding to the impression of a wine built around place rather than a broad regional formula.
After 20 months in French oak barrels, Tapias also nods to the historic Bordeaux-influenced wines (…)Yjar 2017

Yjar 2017
In stock
Yjar 2017 is a Spanish red Rioja with an especially compelling starting point: it is the first commercial vintage of Yjar. The wine comes from DOCa Rioja, with a clear focus on Rioja Alavesa and Labastida, and is connected to Telmo Rodríguez and the family estate Granja Nuestra Señora de Remelluri. Its name refers to the historic Duque de Hájar, a link that places the wine firmly within the estate's past.
The heart of the wine is a selected 3.8-hectare vineyard within the historic Remelluri estate, at the foot of the Sierra de Toloño. Old bush vines, a mixed planting including Tempranillo, Graciano, Garnacha, Granegro and Rojal, stony soils and a high-altitude setting between roughly 600 and 800 metres all point to a wine shaped by a very (…)Yjar 2018

Yjar 2018

Yjar 2018 is a red Rioja with a very defined sense of origin. It comes from Rioja Alavesa, from selected parcels within the historic Granja Nuestra Señora de Remelluri near Labastida de Álava, at the foot of the Sierra de Toloño. The vineyard is high-lying, about 3.8 hectares in size, planted with old gobelet-trained vines and a mixed selection of native Rioja varieties such as Tempranillo, Garnacha, Graciano, Granegro and Rojal.
The 2018 vintage is particularly notable because it is only the second vintage of Yjar. Rather than presenting Rioja in broad terms, this wine focuses on one place: limestone-rich soils, altitude, old vines and a traditional field blend. Specialist sources describe a long maturation for this vintage, often stated as 30 months (…)Yjar 2019

Yjar 2019 is a red Rioja from Labastida de Álava in Rioja Alavesa, linked to Telmo Rodríguez and the historic Granja Nuestra Señora de Remelluri estate at the foot of the Sierra de Toloño. Rather than being defined by a traditional Rioja ageing category, Yjar is presented as the expression of one selected high-altitude vineyard of 3.8 hectares.
That vineyard is central to the identity of the wine. Old bush vines, planted as a mixed massal selection, grow at around 600 to 800 metres above sea level on deep loamy soils formed from marl, with plenty of stones, carbonates and colluvial material from the Sierra de Toloño. The blend brings together Tempranillo, Garnacha, Graciano, Granegro and Rojal, with Garnacha described as a clearly (…)Yjar 2020

Yjar 2020 is a red Rioja with a sharply defined origin. It comes from a vineyard of around 3.8 hectares near Labastida in Rioja Alavesa, on the foothills of the Sierra de Toloño. The site is planted with old mixed vines at high altitude, trained as bush vines or gobelet, on limestone-rich soils with marl, stones and a clear carbonate component.
The wine is connected to Telmo Rodríguez and Pablo Eguzkiza within the setting of the historic Remelluri estate. Yjar is not positioned as a regular Remelluri cuvée, but as a separate single-site project built around old mixed plantings and the high-altitude terroirs of Rioja Alavesa. Its name refers to Hájar/Yjar, a historical name associated with the area.
For the 2020 vintage, the (…)
