Château Haut-Bages Libéral 2020 is the grand vin of this Pauillac estate in Bordeaux, classified as a Cinquième Grand Cru Classé in 1855. Its identity is closely tied to place: clay-limestone gravel soils around the château and deep gravel on the Bages plateau. The estate specifically links the limestone element in its vineyards with the freshness and mineral expression of the wine.
The 2020 blend is 78% Cabernet Sauvignon and 22% Merlot, giving the wine a firm Pauillac frame. The producer describes 2020 as a great Médoc vintage, shaped by a particularly dry and sunny summer. The grapes are listed as Demeter grapes, in line with an estate that has worked organically since the 2019 vintage and has been biodynamically certified since (…)Chateau Haut Bages Liberal 2021

Château Haut-Bages Libéral 2021 is the grand vin of this Pauillac estate, classified as a Cinquième Grand Cru Classé in the 1855 Médoc classification. What makes this vintage stand out is the very high share of Cabernet Sauvignon: 90%, with 10% Merlot. For this château, that is notably Cabernet-driven, giving the wine a clear Left Bank identity built around dark fruit, structure, graphite, cedar and spice.
The 2021 growing season was demanding, with frost, coulure, cool conditions and strong mildew pressure, followed by a more favourable September. Yields were lower than usual, so selection plays an important role in the final wine. The grapes come from organically and biodynamically managed vineyards, and the château describes (…)Chateau Haut Bages Liberal 2022

Château Haut-Bages Libéral 2022 is a red Pauillac from the Médoc and the grand vin of a 5th Grand Cru Classé estate from the 1855 classification. The wine comes from around 30 hectares of vineyards, with plots near the château on clay-limestone soils and others on deep gravel around the Bages plateau. That origin gives this vintage a clearly Pauillac identity: structured, cabernet-led and shaped by freshness and mineral tension.
The blend is 87% cabernet sauvignon and 13% merlot. The vineyards are farmed organically and biodynamically, with Demeter mentioned for this vintage. In the cellar, vinification is carried out parcel by parcel, followed by 16 months of ageing in a mix of new oak, one-wine barrels, ovoid concrete vats and amphorae. It (…)La Chapelle De Haut Bages Liberal 2018

La Chapelle de Haut Bages Liberal 2018 is the second wine of Château Haut-Bages Liberal in Pauillac, Bordeaux. It has its own role within the estate: created in 1988, La Chapelle was intended to show another expression of the Haut-Bages Liberal terroir, often drawing on younger vines than the grand vin.
The 2018 vintage is particularly interesting because the blend is led by Merlot: 70% Merlot and 30% Cabernet Sauvignon. In Pauillac, where Cabernet Sauvignon often sets the tone, that gives this wine a distinctive balance of structure and approachability. The grapes come from the château's vineyards, with clay-limestone gravel around the estate and deep gravel on the Bages plateau.
Each parcel was vinified separately, with a 24-day maceration and (…)La Chapelle De Haut-Bages Liberal 2019

La Chapelle de Haut-Bages Libéral 2019 shows the more approachable side of Château Haut-Bages Libéral while staying firmly rooted in Pauillac. It is the château's second wine, made from younger vines, with the 2019 blend built around 60% Cabernet Sauvignon and 40% Merlot.
Cabernet Sauvignon gives the wine its shape and structure, while Merlot brings fruit and a softer drinking feel. The estate was certified organic in 2019 and was moving towards biodynamic certification at the time, adding an extra layer of context to a wine that remains very much about clarity, fruit and place.
The winemaking was carried out parcel by parcel, with 24 days of maceration and 12 months of ageing in a mix of one-wine barriques, egg-shaped vats and new (…)
