PLANTERAY BELIZE 2008 15Y48.3°

Collection No. 3 Terravera Belize 2008 - Limited Edition is the result of a careful blend of 19 carefully selected casks from the renowned Travellers Liquors Limited distillery. This special edition embodies a commitment to excellence and craftsmanship. Distilled from molasses and aged for 13 years in bourbon barrels in Belize City, Belize, then aged for 2 years in Ferrand barrels in Javrezac, France, this rum is a captivating expression of craftsmanship.

Nose: The nose reveals rich, complex aromas. Intense notes of fresh sugarcane mingle with hints of vanilla, honey and toasted oak. Subtle notes of tropical fruits and sweet flowers add an exotic aromatic dimension.

Taste: On the palate, "Cantique" offers a rich and profound sensory experience. The palate is engulfed by an explosion of ripe fruit, creamy toffee and toasted nuts. The texture is velvety and smooth, with spicy notes of black pepper and cinnamon gradually developing.

Finish: The aftertaste is long and warm, leaving a pleasant sense of warmth in the throat. The lingering flavours of toasted oak, dried fruit and dark chocolate leave a lasting impression and invite you to enjoy every last sip.

PAPALIN RÉUNION 10Y 50°

Papalin is a project dedicated to rum blends, developed by Luca Gargano. After three editions, the range continues with two new releases: Papalin Haiti 6 ans and Réunion 10 ans. The reason Papalin is called a "bottler dependent on the tropics" is that Velier is the only company that enters into direct partnerships with distilleries for the research and maturation of rum, and thus depends on the distilleries until the product is bottled. In this way, all projects are planned hand-in-hand with the partners in terms of research and maturation, which always take place in the distilleries' official warehouses. This version, aged in French oak barrels, is a blend of different rums. Fully matured in the climate of Réunion Island, the rum invites us to discover a palette of flavours and aromas that move through deeply empirical and deliciously fruity sequences with amazing natural ease. This Papalin Réunion is a blend of 10-year-old
aged traditional molasses rum, 11-year-old grand aroma rum, 12-year-old traditional molasses rum and 15-year-old traditional molasses rum.

Nose: Elegant and complex. From the very first nose, a wonderful succession of orange and chocolate aromas set the tone for a promising tasting. After letting it breathe, very ripe mangoes, mineral notes (slate) and hydrocarbon vapours complement the aromatic palette admirably.

Flavour: Noble and invigorating. On attack, the oranges in the nose release their fresh, tangy juices. The more rooty middle palette (ginger, gentian) is also rich (hot cane sugar). The finish reveals a delicate apricot aspect (spice).

Finish: Long and distinguished. The powdery finish (cocoa, red tea) brings back all the fruit of the nose and palate. Aromas of caramel and oak provide a very consistent mid-palate. The finish is naturally fibrous and vegetal (cane).

PAPA ROUYO 1Y 2022 56.7°HABVEL

PAPA ROUYO 2022 is a bottle from the Habitation Velier range, the result of a collaboration with the Papa Rouyo distillery in Guadeloupe. It is a tribute to Charles Albert Ruscade, nicknamed Papa Rouyo, a former sugar cane planter and farmer, whose great-grandson and two master cane growers founded this micro-distillery. This rum is made from pure sugarcane juice of two varieties: Canne Matos and Canne Rouge. It is the expression of a 4-hectare plot. Distilled in 2022 and aged for 1 year in new French oak and cognac barrels, this release was bottled at full strength at 56.7% and has an ester content of 101.6 g/hLPA. The overall angelic proportion was over 8%.

Nose: Rich and concentrated. Incredibly intense honeysuckle scents emerge on the nose. After aeration, notes of candied ginger and nutmeg accentuate the intoxicating character of the aromatic palette. Sustained aromas of cane sugar and precious woods are revealed.

Flavour: Clean and fresh. In stark contrast to the nose, the attack is vanilla-like and almost milky (yoghurt). Candied citrus fruits (lemon, grapefruit) and exotic fruits (pineapple, plantain) provide a rich transition. The finish is slightly fibrous.

Finish: Long and silky. The peachy finish recaptures the candied ginger notes of the nose and develops creamy caramel flavours. The finish stays true to the sugar cane and is refreshed with a very fresh juice.

I've known Broekmans since I graduated in 2006 and thanks to Jan I've come to know the passion for spirits.  I dedicate myself every day to the webshop, customer service and all the IT involved.  In my spare time, besides whiskey, I can also really enjoy rum, but just as much as a gin tonic or a simple bellini.  In the words of Martien Meiland, if there's no alcohol in it, don't call me!
