Product info about Marquis De Calon Segur 2019
Marquis de Calon Ségur 2019 is the second wine of Château Calon Ségur in Saint-Estèphe, made on the same estate as the grand vin of this 1855 Third Growth. It shows another side of Calon Ségur: still firmly rooted in the structure of Saint-Estèphe, but presented in a more approachable and supple style.The 2019 vintage was warm and dry, with healthy grapes and good ripeness. Cabernet sauvignon leads the blend, supported by merlot and a small proportion of cabernet franc. For this vintage, the vines used for the wine had an average age of 20 years, growing on gravel with underlying tertiary clay and a thin layer of lacustrine clay.
The grapes were harvested by hand, vinified in temperature-controlled stainless steel vats and matured for 17 months, with 30% new barriques. The result is a Bordeaux with clear structure, ripe fruit and the savoury firmness that gives Saint-Estèphe its presence at the table.

About CH CALON SEGUR
Château Calon Sëgur is a historic winery from the French Bordeaux region and belongs to the renowned appellation Saint-Estèphe in the Médoc. The estate has a rich history dating back to the 12th century, with the name Calon referring to an old type of boat used to transport wood along the river. The current castle and wine estate became especially famous under the Sëgur family, who were in charge in the 18th century and were also responsible for other major Bordeaux names. Château Calon Sëgur was classified as Troisième Grand Cru Classé in 1855, meaning that since then it has been recognized as one of the third growths of the region. The vineyards cover approximately 55 hectares, with mainly the grape varieties Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and a small percentage of Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. The wines of Calon Sëgur are known for their combination of power and elegance, with a strong character typical of Saint-Estèphe, but with remarkable finesse and aging potential. Today, the château is still highly regarded among Bordeaux enthusiasts and, besides the Grand Vin, also offers a second wine, Le Marquis de Calon Sëgur.
