Flavour notes

Chateau Marjosse Red 2020 is a dark-coloured Bordeaux built around ripe red and black fruit. Blackcurrant, dark cherry, blackberry, plum and mulberry sit at the centre, joined by notes of liquorice, cocoa, dark chocolate and vanilla.

There is also a more savoury, earthy side, with anise, tobacco, graphite, bay leaf and occasional hints of lavender, violet, lilac, green pepper and woodland notes. The oak influence is noticeable but integrated.

On the palate it is dry, medium to full in body, with juicy fruit, clear freshness and ripe, fine tannins. The finish carries a mineral and spicy edge, giving the wine structure without losing its fresh line.

Product info about Chateau Marjosse Red 2020

Chateau Marjosse Red 2020 is a French Bordeaux with a distinctly personal background. The estate is Pierre Lurton's own property in Tizac-de-Curton, in the Entre-deux-Mers area of Bordeaux. The 2020 blend is led by Merlot, supported by Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon and Malbec, giving the wine a clear Bordeaux identity.

The growing season brought a wet spring followed by an exceptionally warm, dry summer. That combination produced ripe grapes with notable concentration, while the winemaking at Marjosse focused on keeping that richness in balance with freshness. Parcel-by-parcel vinification, early morning harvesting and careful sorting all support that more precise approach.

In the cellar, the wine saw cold pre-fermentation maceration and was vinified without added sulphur to preserve aromatic expression. Selected lots underwent malolactic fermentation in 400-litre barrels, while another part was matured on fine lees in temperature-controlled concrete vats. Available information also refers to ageing in French oak, with the oak influence described in tasting notes as present but well integrated.

At Drankenshop Broekmans, this 2020 stands out as a Bordeaux that brings together a respected estate background, detailed cellar work and a ripe yet fresh vintage character. With only the last bottles remaining, it is a particularly worthwhile choice for serving with lamb, beef, duck breast in red wine sauce, mushroom dishes or soft cheeses.

About CH MARJOSSE

Chateau Marjosse is a French winery located in the Entre-Deux-Mers region in Bordeaux, an area known for its diverse terroirs and for producing both red and white wines. The history of the estate dates back to the 18th century, with a manor house that has been expanded and renovated several times over the years. Since 1997, Chateau Marjosse has been owned by Pierre Lurton, a well-known name in the Bordeaux wine world and also director of Chateau d'Yquem and Chateau Cheval Blanc. Under his leadership, significant investments have been made in both vineyard management and vinification to refine the quality of the wines. The vineyards mainly consist of classic Bordeaux grapes such as Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon and Malbec for the red wines, and Sauvignon Blanc, Semillon and Muscadelle for the white wines. The wines of Chateau Marjosse are known for their fresh, approachable style and are usually aged partly in steel and partly in oak, which contributes to their balance and elegance. This makes the brand an interesting choice for those who want to get acquainted with the character of Bordeaux wines without immediately reaching for the most famous and expensive names.
