Nikka The Grain puts Japanese grain whisky in the spotlight as part of the Nikka Discovery Series. Rather than presenting grain as a simple supporting element, Nikka builds this release from seven different grain whisky styles, giving the whisky a deliberately layered identity.
The blend draws on the know-how of four distilleries, including shochu-making techniques used at Moji and Satsumatsukasa. It brings together older Coffey Grain and Coffey Malt from Nishinomiya, Coffey distillates from Miyagikyo, barley grain whisky from Moji and grain whiskies from Satsumatsukasa based on barley, corn, rye and malted barley. Each component was matured separately in American oak, including new, refill and recharred casks.
