Michele Chiarlo Cipressi Nizza 2019 is a Piedmontese red wine from the Nizza DOCG appellation, made entirely from barbera. The fruit comes from Castelnuovo Calcea, within the historic production area around Nizza Monferrato, and is linked to the Tenuta La Court estate. The name Cipressi refers to the cypress trees on one of the estate's hills, a small but evocative detail that ties the wine directly to its place of origin.The 2019 vintage was modest in volume according to the producer, yet strong in quality. Winter water reserves were followed by a warm, dry summer, while the final month before harvest brought mild days and cool nights. That contrast helped retain freshness and tension alongside the structure associated with Nizza.
In the cellar, Cipressi is handled with restraint and precision: fermentation in stainless steel, skin contact for 10 to 12 days, malolactic fermentation in steel, then at least 18 months of ageing, including 12 months in large wooden casks, followed by bottle ageing. Michele Chiarlo is an Italian wine producer from Piemonte, founded in 1956 by Michele Chiarlo himself. The family company has been active since the beginning in one of the most highly regarded wine regions of Northern Italy, and has strongly focused on producing wines that reflect the character of the region. The vineyards of Michele Chiarlo are mainly located in the most famous Piemontese zones, including Barolo and Barbaresco for the red wines from the Nebbiolo grape, but also in regions such as Asti for Barbera and Moscato, among others. Quality and terroir are central in the winery's approach; a lot of attention is paid to sustainable viticultural practices and a careful selection of grapes. The assortment of Michele Chiarlo ranges from fresh, floral white wines to structured, complex red wines that are typical for Piemonte.
