Product info about Quinta Do Fonte Souto Red
Quinta do Fonte Souto Red is a Portuguese red wine that shows Symington from a different angle. It comes from Portalegre in the Alto Alentejo, from vineyards on the slopes of the Serra de São Mamede. At around 500 metres above sea level, the estate has cooler and wetter conditions than the warmer Alentejo plain, giving the wine its mix of concentration, freshness and firm structure.Quinta da Fonte Souto was acquired by the Symington family as their first wine estate outside the Douro. The name refers to the water sources on the property and to the surrounding chestnut groves, a detail that feels especially fitting given the wine's woodland notes and chestnut-like character.
The blend is built around Alicante Bouschet, Syrah and Touriga Nacional. The grapes are hand-harvested, carefully sorted and vinified in separate parcels, with maceration adapted to the potential of each batch. Part of the wine matures for eight months in 400-litre French oak barrels of second and third use, adding structure without making oak the main story.
