Château Le Bon Pasteur 2020 is a Pomerol built around Merlot, with Cabernet Franc adding its own lift and detail. It comes from the estate in Maillet, in Pomerol, where the vineyard parcels lie on gravelly and clay-based soils, with vines averaging around forty years of age.The 2020 vintage was notably early. After a wet spring that helped build water reserves, the summer turned dry and sunny, with the harvest taking place between 11 and 29 September. The grapes were picked by hand and selected with care before and after destemming, then again by parcel. Le Bon Pasteur also uses an unusual cellar approach here: alcoholic fermentation in new French oak barriques, followed by 12 to 15 months in French oak, 70% of it new. That helps explain the wine's combination of dark fruit, polish and firm structure.
