Château du Tertre 2020 is the red Grand Vin of the estate, produced in the Margaux appellation of Bordeaux, France. As a 5th Grand Cru Classé from the 1855 classification, it belongs firmly to the classical Bordeaux tradition, yet the 2020 vintage has its own identity. The blend brings together Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot, with the relatively strong presence of Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot forming part of the estate's Grand Vin character.

The vineyard lies in Arsac, within Margaux, on gravel soils with clay and sand. The harvest took place from 14 September to 2 October, followed by manual and optical sorting. Fermentation and vinification were carried out in wooden, concrete and stainless-steel vats, with 21 days of maceration, before 12 months of ageing in French oak barriques, 40% of them new.

Within the Drankenshop Broekmans selection, this is the kind of Bordeaux we like to present to customers looking for a Margaux with structure, freshness and genuine ageing potential. Most drinking windows point to the wine developing particularly from the mid to late 2020s onward, with several sources extending its outlook well into the 2030s and beyond. As these are the last bottles, the vintage has become that little bit more limited in availability.

Serve around 16 to 18 °C, especially alongside red meat, grilled or slow-cooked dishes, game, lamb, duck, truffle-based preparations or mature hard cheeses.

Château du Tertre 2020 shows a medium-bodied to fairly structured Margaux style, built around dark and red fruit. Cassis, black cherry, dark berries, raspberry and wild strawberry are joined by violet or lilac notes, followed by tobacco, white pepper, mint, graphite and cocoa powder.

The oak influence is clear but not dominant, bringing hints of pencil shavings, toasted wood and spicy wood tones. On the palate, fresh acidity, fine to ripe tannins and a supple, silky texture give the wine tension. It feels concentrated rather than heavy, with an elegant frame and tannins that can still be present in its youth.
