Fleur de Pedesclaux 2020 is the second wine of Château Pedesclaux in Pauillac, offered here in a 1.5-litre magnum. That larger format suits the wine well: it feels at home at the table, especially alongside red meat, grilled dishes, game, poultry or hard cheeses.The 2020 blend brings together cabernet sauvignon, merlot and a small proportion of petit verdot. With its relatively generous share of merlot, it shows a more supple and fruit-led side of Pauillac, while still carrying the Bordeaux identity of the château's gravel and limestone terroir.
There is serious work behind the wine: hand harvesting in small crates, selection of bunches and berries, gravity-fed vinification and 12 months of ageing in barriques. At Drankenshop Broekmans, we see this as a fine way to approach Pauillac through a wine that is polished, expressive and more immediately approachable than the grand vin.
The 2020 vintage also received favourable critical attention, including 92 points from James Suckling and 91 points from Jeb Dunnuck. With only the last bottles available and the added presence of the magnum format, this is a Bordeaux that has both substance and a sense of occasion.

About CH PEDESCLAUX
Chateau Pedesclaux is a wine estate in the French Bordeaux region, located in the renowned Pauillac appellation, north of the city of Bordeaux. The chateau was founded in 1810 and belongs to the so-called Cinquièmes Grands Crus Classés in the 1855 classification, which means it is officially recognized as one of the fifth-group top wines from the region. The vineyards are situated on gravel-rich soils that are typical for Pauillac and favorably contribute to the quality of the grapes, mainly Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and to a lesser extent Petit Verdot. Chateau Pedesclaux was known for many years as a modest estate, but has undergone a significant quality boost due to modernization, among other things since the takeover by Jacky Lorenzetti in 2009. The winery combines traditional techniques with modern vinification and in recent years has devoted much attention to sustainable viticulture. The wines of Pedesclaux are generally distinguished by their elegant structure and balanced expression of fruit, power and freshness, which makes them representative of the character of Pauillac.
