Epu 2021 is the second wine of Almaviva, made in Puente Alto in Chile's Maipo Valley. The name Epu means two in the Mapuche language, a clear reference to its position within the estate. For the 2021 vintage, the blend is led by cabernet sauvignon at 80%, supported by 15% carménère and 5% merlot.
Its appeal lies in the close relationship with Almaviva itself. Epu comes from the same vineyard environment, mainly from younger vines, giving it a more approachable expression while keeping the cabernet-driven identity of Puente Alto. Twelve months in French barriques, with only a modest proportion of new oak, help frame the ripe fruit and savoury spice without pushing the wine into a heavier style.

The fruit comes from Alto Maipo, at the foot of the Andes, from vineyards around 460 metres above sea level on the southern bank of the Maipo River. The alluvial soils, with stones, clay, silt and sand, are described as low in fertility and well drained. Sena 2010 is a dry red wine from Chile's Aconcagua Valley, sourced from Seña's own hillside vineyard in Ocoa. Its Bordeaux inspiration is clear, yet the presence of Carmenere gives the blend a distinctly Chilean accent alongside Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot.
The vineyard setting is central to the wine's personality. The vines grow on north-east facing slopes at roughly 290 to 500 metres above sea level, around 41 kilometres from the Pacific Ocean. That position brings cooling influence and day-night temperature variation, factors linked to colour intensity, ripeness and the preservation of acidity.
